Transfers Out of SFPP

Important Note: SFPP has joined the National Transfer Agreement, effective November 1, 2025.  If you are interested in transferring into or out of SFPP, you may have the opportunity to do so under the new agreement and can submit your application after the effective date. RCMP transfers are not affected and will continue as usual.

SFPP participates in the National Transfer Agreement (NTA) and has a separate transfer agreement with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Pension Plan. If you leave SFPP and join the RCMP Pension Plan or a pension plan that participates in the NTA, you may be eligible to transfer your SFPP benefit entitlement directly to your new pension plan.

Timelines vary between agreements. If you are considering transferring out of SFPP, contact the pension administrator for your new pension plan as soon as possible.

Each pension plan has its own pension benefit formula that is used to calculate the cost of transferring your SFPP benefit entitlement. To be eligible to transfer, you must have left your funds with SFPP.

You are not able to transfer your benefit entitlement out of SFPP if you were eligible to collect an SFPP pension at the time you terminated from the Plan, meaning you were vested and:

  • age 55 or older; or
  • had 25+ years of pensionable service.
