Cost-of-Living Adjustment

2017 Cost-of-Living Adjustment Increase

Effective January 2017, the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) is a 0.78 per cent increase on pensionable service to December 31, 2000, and a one-time increase of 0.39 per cent for service after December 31, 2000. The adjustment will be automatically applied to your pension.

Members who retired during 2016 (between January 1, 2016, and November 30, 2016) will receive a prorated portion of this increase. Those who retired in, or prior to, 2015 will receive a full COLA.

The Special Forces Pension Board has granted a COLA increase on the portion of pensions in pay and deferred pensions for service after December 31, 2000. Any future COLA increases for service earned after December 31, 2000, will be granted on an ad hoc basis when there are sufficient funds.

This increase reflects the change in the Alberta Consumer Price Index (ACPI) reported by Statistics Canada.

For more information on how COLA is calculated, see the explanation of COLA calculations page or the Frequently Asked Questions. For details about the ACPI, see the ACPI explanation page.

Your T4A statement will be mailed out in February 2017. It will also be available on mypensionplan.ca.
